Cope Cottage is one of the renowned Bruern Cottages, set within four acres of award-winning gardens in the Evenlode Valley. Originally built as the mill house for Bruern Abbey, it has been thoughtfully converted into a classic Cotswold retreat that feels both intimate and grand in character.
Inside
The heart of the cottage is the extraordinary 30-foot by 15-foot library, drawing and dining room. With its high pitched roof, tall proportions and dramatic Gothic stone fireplace, the space feels light and elegant — more chateau than cottage. Lined with hundreds of books, it offers a refined yet welcoming setting for quiet evenings or relaxed entertaining.
The king-size en-suite bedroom features a polished dark wood floor, vaulted ceiling and a six-foot bed framed by soft off-white hangings. The adjoining kitchen is flagged in Cotswold fossil stone from nearby Farmington quarry and is exceptionally well equipped, with a range cooker, microwave, American-style fridge-freezer and two dishwashers — practical whether cooking for two or hosting a larger gathering when rented alongside other cottages.
Outside
Small terraces to the east and west provide private outdoor seating, surrounded by trellis, clematis, roses and shrubs. Garden furniture, umbrella and barbecue allow for relaxed al fresco dining, while the wider Bruern estate offers access to the indoor heated pool, spa, gym, tennis court, games room and children’s play areas, all set within landscaped gardens along the River Evenlode.
