About

About

Midsummer Mill — once known as Midsummer Wood — is an enchanting former mill house with origins dating back to the 14th century. Reached by a quiet single-track lane and set in a sunny hollow beside the River Windrush, it feels timeless and secluded. Despite its sense of retreat, the house is connected by footpaths and bridleways to Bourton-on-the-Water and the famous Slaughters, making it easy to explore without touching the car. The setting is rich with wildlife, peaceful, and ideal for slow days in nature.

Inside

The hand-painted Mark Wilkinson kitchen is exceptionally well equipped, with Miele appliances, large and small ovens, a microwave, a Nespresso machine, and a full range of blenders, juicers, and mixers. A washing machine and tumble dryer are also provided.
The main house sleeps eight across four bedrooms. On the first floor, the master king suite includes an en-suite bathroom with a bath, steam shower, and twin sinks. A second king bedroom sits beside its own en-suite with a bath and overhead shower. The second floor has two twin rooms — one with twin double beds — which share a family bathroom. An additional en-suite bedroom sits externally, attached to the guest cottage and accessed from the garden. It is most suitable for one guest rather than a couple. The two-bedroom guest cottage can be added for an extra charge. A cot and high chair are available, though children must be supervised near the river and mill race.

Outside

The grounds extend across 11 acres and include lawns, woodland, a vegetable garden, an orchard, and paths leading directly to the river. The indoor pool is heated year-round and includes a steam room. Outdoor facilities include a tennis court, gym equipment, ping-pong, and a children’s play area. The setting is deeply private, with only the occasional rambler passing along the byway. Private parking is available for four cars, and helicopter landings can be arranged by prior agreement.

Find the house

Midsummer Mill sits beside the River Windrush and links by footpath to Bourton-on-the-Water and the nearby Slaughters. Shops, pubs, and cafés can be reached on foot, and several of the prettiest Cotswold villages are close enough for car-free exploring.
