Villa Vista is a midcentury house in its own private corner of the 440-acre Heythrop estate, just outside Chipping Norton and six minutes from Soho Farmhouse. Where most of the Cotswolds trades in exposed beams and honeyed stone, this does something else: clean midcentury lines and a warm 1970s-California palette, reached down a private road through mature woodland and open parkland.
It sleeps up to eight across four individually styled bedrooms, and the grounds are generous enough to properly disappear into.
Clean lines and a warm 1970s palette, in a house set down a private road in its own corner of a 440-acre estate.
Both set apart among the trees, a little walk from the house, which is what makes them worth using after dark.
The fire pit sits at the end of its own garden path; the roof terrace has sun loungers and the evening light.
A gas barbecue and a Gozney pizza oven beside a dedicated outdoor dining area, just outside the indoor kitchen-diner.
Five miles by road, with Diddly Squat seven, Blenheim eight and Daylesford twelve.
A master with a terrace and double shower, a corner king, a zip-and-link twin, and a small room with a fine window.
The grounds are the real point of the place. A sunken fire pit sits along its own path through the garden, and a private roof terrace with sun loungers catches the evening light above the rooftops. Tucked among the trees a little further out, a wood-fired hot tub and a traditional sauna give you a genuinely quiet corner to disappear into after dark.
The outdoor kitchen carries the theme on from the one inside: a gas barbecue and a Gozney pizza oven beside a dedicated outdoor dining area.
The kitchen-diner is the middle of the house and is built for a group: a long breakfast bar, double ovens and a separate utility room, with patio doors opening straight onto the garden so cooking and eating slide easily outside. The sitting room has a working fireplace, relaxed seating and the same easy run onto the terrace, and tends to be the room nobody wants to leave once evening sets in.
The four bedrooms each have their own character. The Master occupies its own private terrace, with a super king bed, twin sinks, a walk-in wardrobe and a double shower finished in pink tile. The Corner Bedroom is a king room with built-in wardrobes looking out over the terrace and grounds. The Twin can be made up as two singles or zipped into a super king. The Littlest Bedroom is smaller but full of character, with a feature window over the garden and its own dressing table. A third bathroom with a deep bath, walk-in shower and double vanity serves the remaining rooms, and a butter-yellow tiled cloakroom sits close to the main living space. A private study, fitted with a proper desk and an armchair, handles anyone who needs to dip into work.
